Therapy

Therapy is an effective treatment for a wide variety of mental health issues. Therapy involves an active collaborative relationship between patient and provider, working as a team to decrease unwanted mental health symptoms and to improve the patient’s quality of life. At Ally Psychiatry, we see individual therapy patients spanning the lifespan and treat children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric therapy patients, as well as see families for family therapy services. There are many different types of therapy, such as talk based therapy and behavioral forms of therapy that can be helpful for different types of problems. There are also different models of therapy that can be helpful in alleviating mental health symptoms, such as Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Interpersonal Therapy, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and many others. At Ally Psychiatry, our providers work with patients to develop an individualized treatment plan for therapy and work from a wide variety of evidence-based therapy treatment models to reduce suffering and build hope. Most of our providers use an integrated model of practice that allows for a combination of evidence-based models to be used to target specific mental health problems and promote wellness. Overall, our goal is for therapy to be a safe space for the patient to feel unconditionally accepted while doing the hard work of change. If you are seeking to understand your feelings, thoughts, or behaviors or to gain insight into how to overcome challenges in your path toward wellbeing, therapy services could be right for you. Therapy for Kids and Teens

Kids and teens need therapy when they have problems they cannot cope with alone; especially when problems affect their behavior, feelings, and ability to function at their best. Kids and teens communicate through various forms of communication such as play, art, activities, writing and talking. The Therapist should meet with the parent and child/teen on the first visit to obtain information about the child/teen’s life and problems. Follow-up sessions will primarily be held with the Therapist and the child/teen alone where they will talk, play games, do art and learn new skills to help them communicate and process feelings as well as learn coping skills to deal with their problems.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy – CBT

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is based on the idea that how you think determines how you feel and how you behave. As humans, we all have irrational thoughts, unfortunately, irrational, or not, these thoughts still affect how we feel and how we behave.

Using the cognitive model, your therapist will help you to learn how to identify your own patters of thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Understanding how your thoughts shape how you feel and learning to spot it before it negatively impacts your life can change your life significantly for the better. Once you become aware, the thoughts that once left you feeling anxious, angry, or depressed can be replaced with health alternatives- you will be in control of your life.

There are several viable options of therapy, no single method is best. Therapies mentioned here make up only some of the modalities being used in clinic. Your therapist may use one or more methods, while they craft a plan to meet your specific needs.

If you are seeking to understand your behaviors or have some insight on how to overcome challenges in your path towards wellbeing, therapy could be right for you. Fill out the appointment request form below and we will get you scheduled with one of our Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW) or Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC). Remember You Are Important.
