OCD

Obsessive-Compulsive and Related Disorders (such as OCD, Body Dysmorphic Disorder, Hoarding Disorder, Trichotillomania, and Excoriation (Skin-Picking) are disorders that involve obsessions (recurrent and persistent thoughts, urges or images that are unwanted), and/or compulsions (repetitive behaviors or mental acts that one feels driven to perform). This group of disorders can present across the lifespan and the symptoms are outside of normal developmental functioning. In particular, OCD is a disorder in which people have reoccurring and unwanted thoughts and ideas (obsessions) that might make them do something repetitively to reduce distress (compulsions). Body Dysmorphic Disorder is a disorder in which someone has a preoccupation with a perceived defect with their physical appearance that is irrational (not readily perceived by others). Hoarding Disorder is a disorder where a person struggles with discarding or parting with possessions, causing functional impairment. Trichotillomania is a disorder when a person pulls out their hair excessively. Lastly, Excoriation Disorder is a disorder where a person repeatedly picks at their skin and causes injury to the skin. At Ally Psychiatry, we offer medication management, evaluation, and therapy services for these disorders. Treatments for these types of disorders have been proven to be very effective in reducing symptoms.
